there's still some hope
the boyfriend knows everyone
including tom wopat
so he scored us from free tix
to see a catered affair last night

it was such a lovely show
moving, delicate
not a musical
but a play with music

simple sets
simple costumes
simple music
anything more and
the simple story
would be lost

harvey fierstein's book
was fleshed out
and full of life

john bucchino's score
felt like a glorious
movie's soundtrack

ninety minutes
of beautiful performances
and true heart-wrenching acting

definitely not
musical theatre "acting"

faith prince was superb
she was contained,
like a true housewife of the fifties
touching when she finally let loose
and captivating to watch

i can see why the show
was a box office flop:
it wasn't showy
there were no bix production numbers
a small cast
and smart, endearing performances

it wasn't mindless,
and, sadly, broadway is now geared
towards tourists who don't want to think
like the wretched xanadu

but i loved it
yes, definitely my type of theater
and a delightful evening

patti lupone was good in gypsy
but mama rose is a flashy role
and easy to endlessly praise

faith prince was brilliant
and i do believe that perhaps
she was looked over

i was really moved and...
just thank you
